Priming before makeup
Primer is the first step in makeup application, enhancing the adherence of makeup to the skin. Primers are generally available for smoothing pores, illuminating the complexion, and correcting skin tone. Use pore-smoothing primers on areas with enlarged pores, illuminating primers can be applied to the entire face, and color-correcting primers are used selectively.
Less is more
More isn’t always better when it comes to base makeup products. Just 1-2 pea-sized amounts of foundation can fulfill your makeup needs. Applying a small amount of product multiple times results in a transparent and adherent base makeup. If you’re using a cushion foundation, evenly press the puff to pick up the product. The amount shouldn’t be too thick. Gently pat the puff on the inner lid to distribute the foundation evenly. Then, press the puff along the contours of the face, applying slightly thicker in the center and thinner on the periphery to enhance facial contouring. Adjust the contouring as needed.
Makeup tools
Beauty blenders are suitable for makeup beginners or those aiming for a light and natural look. Before use, soak the beauty blender in water, squeeze out the excess water, then dab the foundation onto the face. This ensures a more adherent makeup application. Remember, the correct way to use a beauty blender is to dab, not to swipe. Using a foundation brush to apply foundation allows you to preserve the texture of the foundation, resulting in a natural and even base makeup. However, it can be challenging for beginners to control the pressure. If applied unevenly, it may cause streaks on the face, so beginners are not recommended to use a foundation brush. Similarly, wet the foundation brush with water before use to ensure smoother application. Cushion products come with built-in applicators, making them very convenient and a good choice for many makeup beginners.
Setting
Using setting powder or setting spray can help lock in your makeup, making it more long-lasting and less prone to smudging. This is especially necessary for people with oily or combination skin types, as setting the makeup in oily areas can prevent it from sliding off.
